A Letter From Alvin Kan, Bitget Wallet COO: Your Limits Are Your World

One morning two months ago, a number in the team's daily report stopped me cold. For the first time, more people were using Bitget Wallet to pay than to trade.

I sat with those few rows for a long while. I knew what that quiet crossover meant. For years, this industry lived with something to prove, always one argument away from being taken seriously. Not anymore. When hundreds of thousands of people reach for your product to buy dinner and cover rent, the case for crypto stops being a debate. It becomes a habit.

I'm writing this letter as Bitget Wallet crosses 100 million users and turns eight years old. And the honest thing to say is that neither milestone is ours alone to claim. They belong to every one of you who made Bitget Wallet part of your everyday life. You showed us what we got right, what to build next, and how to break the boundaries and reach the next billion people alongside us.

Every so often I ask myself the same question: is what we're building still something valuable that no one else is building ? It's the question that has steered every choice I've made. I spent years talking about 'going onchain', until one truth became impossible to ignore: most people don't need to understand the intricacies of a blockchain, and they never should have to. The way in, for all of them, is a wallet.

That truth changed what we were willing to be. Was Bitget Wallet only ever meant to be a place to hold and trade crypto? The answer has become clear over time. What we wanted was simpler, and harder: to become a useful part of your everyday life.

There's only one way to get there. Abstract away the onchain complexities in crypto wallets. Tear down the walls of jargon and inconveniences that keep ordinary people out. Build a product that provides the onchain advantage yet so easy to use that non-crypto natives can adopt intuitively.

I've always liked a line from Wittgenstein: " The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." In the same way, the limits of the financial tools a person can use are almost the limits of their daily life. What account you can open, what currency you can hold, whether you can send money abroad, what assets you can trade, all quietly set the shape of the life you can lead. Traditional finance draws that boundary painfully narrow for most people. Across Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, in economies rocked by instability, countless digital nomads and remote workers are the people who need financial services the most and yet the least served by traditional financial systems.

For us, the "boundary" is defined by how deep our product reaches. The deeper our product goes, the greater the value it delivers to users.

And the core of reaching deeper is embracing the principle of 'less is more'. We work to deliver an experience as smooth as Web2, lowering the barrier to onchain access through features like social login and GetGas. We support a wide range of crypto and real-world assets, and we built our own DEX aggregator to reduce cross-chain and swap friction to the minimum. On top of that, since last year we've been building a second strategic map in parallel: everyday payments.

Building the rails, reaching the world

At the foundation, we build the payment infrastructure:
  • Onchain Payments Matrix: Covers more than 50 countries and has settled over $177 billion in stablecoins to date
  • All-token payment channels: Thousands of tokens can top up a crypto card or pay by QR code directly

At the application layer, we expand localised coverage around the world:
  • Localized QR payments: Connected to local QR codes across Asia-Pacific and Latin America, with stablecoin scan-to-pay
  • A global crypto card matrix: Virtual cards issued with Mastercard and Visa across Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, plus physical cards for ATM withdrawals worldwide
  • Fiat network connections: Direct stablecoin-to-local-bank-card transfers in places like Nigeria, and fast on- and off-ramps such as Apple Pay integrated in many markets

From crypto wallet to everyday finance

These payment touchpoints scattered across the world cumulatively revealed a change in our users' behaviour: for the first time, the center of gravity moved from trading toward daily life. In the first half of 2026, Bitget Wallet Card spending surpassed $3 3 million, more than double the second half of 2025. Behind that number I can picture countless real life scenarios: a dinner, a month's rent, the plain sense of security that ordinary people build their lives on.

But what's worth more than the scale is a few things I read in this half-year of data.

1. Stablecoins are becoming a "dollar account" for some people

Where inflation runs high and local currencies keep sliding, stablecoins are the most stable asset ordinary people can get their hands on. In the past six months, monthly on-ramp volume for users in Latin America and South Asia both hit record highs in May. People converted local currency into stablecoins not to spend, but to keep their assets from losing value. What they really want is a dollar account they can hold in their own hands, and stablecoins have taken on that role for them.

2. Payment frequency is converging, and small, frequent purchases are the norm

Put the card-swipe frequency of each region side by side and they've already converged into a similar range. Across APAC, SEA, US, and EU, users swipe an average of 10 to 15 times a month. Between economies whose GDP per capita differs several times over, people are settling into almost the same rhythm of use. The global average transaction ranges from $10 to $13. These small, frequent payments reflect how close we are to users' everyday life.

3. QR payments & bank transfers are becoming the entry point in emerging markets

With mature QR infrastructure across Asia-Pacific and Latin America, nearly half of all new payment users worldwide in the past six months used QR payments in emerging markets. In Vietnam, cumulative QR payment volume grew 4x in six months, and per-person monthly spending has risen for six straight months, moving closer to genuine everyday spending. In Nigeria, bank transfers have grown steadily and organically over the past six months, with spending up more than 80% and payment count up more than 60%, a sign that people are forming real payment habits.

The next billion: everyday finance without boundaries

None of these were ours to do alone. The walls that traditional finance and geopolitics built are cracking, and it's users leading this change, one scan and one card payment at a time. Every tap is a small vote for a different kind of financial life, one that answers to no one but the person living it.

That is what "user - first" comes down to. The best thing we can build is the thing you never notice: the payment that simply lands, the problem that never happens. And in that quiet, we're earning the one asset that can't be bought or rushed, only compounded over years: your trust.

We don't take it lightly, and we're not slowing down. A new chapter opens now, and we'll walk it with you, until the vision we've been describing stops being a boundary to cross and simply becomes part of an ordinary day.
