What is Ethlabs?

Ethlabs is an independent, non-profit research and development laboratory and ecosystem steward focused on advancing Ethereum's core protocol. Launched in June 2026, its mission is to transform Ethereum into the primary settlement layer for the global digital economy, supporting the growth of stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and autonomous AI-driven commerce.

How Does Ethlabs Work?

Ethlabs operates at the intersection of core protocol development and the real-world needs of the ecosystem. It functions as a research hub that translates requirements from builders—such as decentralized application developers and institutional participants—into technical standards and infrastructure solutions. The lab focuses on critical technical areas including settlement speed, network capacity, and cross-chain interoperability.

What Makes Ethlabs Unique?

Unlike profit-driven labs, Ethlabs is a non-profit organization designed to ensure 'credible neutrality' and independence in Ethereum’s development. It is unique for being founded by a coordinated group of former senior Ethereum Foundation researchers and is backed by a diverse coalition of major public companies with significant ETH treasuries, ensuring that protocol development is directly aligned with the long-term resilience of the network.

Who Are the Founders of Ethlabs?

Ethlabs was co-founded by five prominent former senior researchers from the Ethereum Foundation: Ansgar Dietrichs (Executive Director), Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz-Schilling, Josh Rudolf, and Julian Ma. These founders bring extensive expertise in scaling, finality, protocol economics, and virtual machine development, having guided Ethereum through many of its most significant upgrades.
